Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to DuckConvert. DuckConvert is designed with privacy as its core principle: every file you convert, compress, or edit is processed entirely within your browser, locally on your device.

That guarantee covers your files. The site itself is funded by advertising and measures aggregate traffic, so it does load two third-party services: Google AdSense and Cloudflare Web Analytics. Sections 5 and 6 explain exactly what those do and how to opt out. Those two are the only third parties this site contacts. Two tools also download machine-learning data on first use, but they download it from us, as explained in section 4.

2. Your Files Never Leave Your Device

We do not upload your files to any servers. When you select a file to convert, compress, or edit using DuckConvert, all operations are performed locally on your device using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs.

DuckConvert has no backend, no database, and no server-side processing. Because files never leave your device, we cannot view, store, copy, or share your files, and neither can our advertising or analytics providers.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

• Your files or the content within them
• Your conversion history or the settings you choose
• Accounts, email addresses, or names (there is no sign-up)

We operate no server that could receive this data in the first place.

4. Model Downloads for OCR and Background Removal

The OCR tool and the Background Removal tool each need a machine-learning model too large to ship with every page load, so the first time you use either one your browser downloads it separately:

• OCR downloads the Tesseract engine and its English training data.
• Background Removal downloads an ONNX subject-detection model.

Both downloads come from assets.duckconvert.com, which we operate. The libraries behind these tools would by default fetch this data from their authors’ own content delivery networks, which would have exposed your IP address and the timing of your visit to those operators. We host copies of the same files ourselves specifically so that does not happen. No party is involved in these requests beyond the host that already serves the rest of the site, described in section 7.

Your file itself is never part of these requests, and everything after the download runs locally exactly as described in section 2. Each browser caches the download after first use, so it is not repeated on later visits or for other tools.

5. Advertising (Google AdSense)

DuckConvert displays third-party advertisements served by Google AdSense. Ad slots are marked “Advertisement” on the page. To serve them, Google receives your IP address, user-agent, and the page you are viewing, and may set or read cookies and similar identifiers in your browser.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads and may use them to show you personalised advertising based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This data is processed by Google, not by us. We never receive it, and we have no access to any profile Google builds. We only see aggregate earnings reports.

You can control this:

• Opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
• Opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
• Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
• Any browser-level ad or tracker blocker will stop the AdSense script from loading. DuckConvert’s conversion tools keep working normally when it is blocked.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, a consent message is shown before personalised ads are served, using Google’s certified consent management platform. Your choice is stored in your browser and can be changed at any time from the privacy options link in that message.

6. Aggregate Analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit which pages. It is a privacy-preserving, cookieless measurement service:

• It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your device.
• It does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across other websites.
• It reports aggregate figures only: page views, referrer, country, browser, and page-load timings. We cannot single out an individual visitor or follow one across visits.

7. Hosting

The site is served as static files from Cloudflare Pages, and the model downloads described in section 4 are served from Cloudflare R2 under assets.duckconvert.com. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata in order to deliver the files and protect against abuse. This is standard request handling, not analytics, and we do not build profiles from it.

8. Data Stored In Your Browser

DuckConvert itself stores two small preferences in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are never sent anywhere:

• theme: whether you prefer the light or dark appearance.
• pwa_banner_dismissed: so the “install this app” banner does not reappear after you dismiss it.

A service worker also caches the app’s own assets so it can run offline. Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it. Cookies set by Google AdSense are separate and are covered in section 5.

9. Children’s Privacy

DuckConvert is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date above.
